Synthesis and luminescent properties of (RE0.95Ln0.05)2O2S (RE = La, Y; Ln = Ho, Tm)

Abstract Solid solutions of oxysulfides (RE0.95Ln0.05)2O2S (RE = La, Y; Ln Ho, Tm) were obtained by hydrogen reduction the co-precipitated sulfates followed sulfidation reaction products. The crystal chemical characteristics compounds refined Rietveld method. Morphological certification particles in dynamics synthesis was performed. Most produced reactions have a cut that indicates formation compound with hexagonal syngony angles 60 and 120°. This thermal effect gaseous reagents H2, H2S on leads to heterogeneous dissociation new phases. Steady state luminescence properties displayed characteristic sharp bands corresponding 4f-4f transitions. Luminescence decay curves all studied samples showed monoexponential microsecond hundreds lifetimes depending doping ions. Calculated color coordinates Ho3+ Tm3+-doped powders make them promising candidates be used as phosphors.
